The 43rd Annual Father’s Day Weekend Fishing Tournament hosted by the South Shore Lions Club is officially in the books!
For the first time in as long as anyone can remember, participants enjoyed two straight days of perfect fishing weather. Calm waters, sunshine, and comfortable temperatures provided ideal conditions for anglers of all ages to get out on the water and enjoy a great Father’s Day weekend fishing on Lake Superior.
We welcomed more participants this year than we have seen in over 20 years, with many boats hosting three and even four generations of family members fishing together. It was a wonderful celebration of family, tradition and community.
Tournament Winners
Trout Division
1st Place Trout ($400): Joe Germano – 15 lbs. 7 oz.
2nd Place Trout ($150): Brian McInerney – 13 lbs. 6 oz.
Salmon Division
1st Place Salmon ($400): JJ Gregerson – 6 lbs. 5 oz. King Salmon.
2nd Place Salmon ($150): Matt Farley – 5 lbs. 5 oz.
Other Species Division
1st Place Other ($100): Preston Luoma – 7 lbs. 6 oz. Brown Trout.
We also had a three-way tie for our Mystery Weight contest. Each winner received $25: Jens Gregerson, Dave Olson, and Team Ms. Conduct.
We came dangerously close to selling out of raffle tickets and had a tremendous community turnout for the raffle drawings.
Rock River Bait & Tackle of Ashland joined the tournament this year as a sponsor, generously donating a trolling mast as the grand prize in the exclusive participant raffle. The prize was won by Ryan Olson of Port Wing.
Our grand prize in the general raffle was once again donated by our longtime sponsor, Marine General of Duluth. The 65-quart YETI cooler was won by Jody Richardson of Herbster.
Jim’s Meat Market of Iron River generously donated the hot dogs for the complimentary barbecue following the tournament.
We are grateful to all of our sponsors, large and small. We could not make this event possible without their support.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the anglers, volunteers, sponsors and community members who helped make this year’s tournament another success. Your continued support keeps this tradition strong and ensures the tournament remains a highlight of the summer season.
Congratulations to all of our winners, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year for the 44th Annual Father’s Day Weekend Fishing Tournament!
